Summer Schools 2016 successfully completed!

Sep 5, 2016 by

91 participants from 41 nations from all continents took part in this year’s summer programs “Alternative Economic and Monetary Systems” (AEMS) and „Green.Building.Solutions.“ (GBS) of the OEAD-housing office in Vienna.

AEMS students investigated and debated how economic, political, monetary and environmental factors need to be changed to be more sustainable. Looking at alternatives to the capitalist system, where profits still count but factors such as life-work balance, ethics, sustainability and the environment count, the summer school also offers a unique opportunity for students wanting to understand how happiness and satisfaction are key drivers rather than material goods.

Green.Building.Solutions. specialized on the current issue ‘integrative living for new immigrants’. Students designed new housing developments following the social, economic and ecological sustainability principles. Alongside lectures about building and planning, excursions to VinziRast and to Kurierhaus in Lindengasse – that host around 600 refugees – showed an authentic situation in Vienna. Students were also fascinated by excursions to Aspern’s Urban Lakeside, Energyworld Spittelau or the Light Lab at Danube University in Krems.

We would like to thank every participant, lecturer and organizer for his/her contribution and are looking forward to next year’s installments!

Dates for the upcoming year:
AEMS: 26. Juli – 12. August 2017
GBS: 22. Juli – 13 August 2017
Application starts in Winter 2016.
